In order to be eligible, you need to be a student pilot member of the 99s with a current medical or BasicMed clearance (unless you’re working towards Sport Pilot, in which case the medical is not required) and you need to have logged at least 5 hours of flight time in the last 6 months. The award is for up to $6,000. Please be sure that you are familiar with the best practices for crafting a strong application. Review the webinar from Nov 4th 2020 on this subject at https://www.ninety-nines.org/webinars.htm
There is also a special section in this webinar for Chairwomen on Chapter Letters of Recommendation and how to write effective one. (Note that LORs that simply restating what is in the essay does NOT help your applicant!) Chairs should expand on their applicant’s story with their own supporting anecdotes.
Additionally, the tips and suggestions here – http://www.flightscholarship.info/application–tips.html should be followed to write a strong, engaging and descriptive essay, which differs from a letter format. An absolute must is to include a funding plan for achievement of the private pilot milestones so that the student may earn her reimbursements. Essays lacking this critical information do not score as well as those that do.
